Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Skillet

Ingredients

For the Beef Filling

  • 1 pound Ground Beef Swap for ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 medium Onion Adds sweetness; shallots can also provide a milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Fresh minced enhances aroma; garlic powder can work in a pinch.
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning Essential for authentic flavor; consider homemade mix.
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce or Salsa Adds moisture and tanginess; opt for low-sugar for healthier choice.

For the Taco Shells

  • 12 pieces Taco Shells Must be hard shell; select gluten-free.

For Toppings

  • 2 cups Shredded Cheese Any meltable cheese or try dairy-free options.
  • 2 cups Fresh Lettuce Adds crunch; mix in spinach for added nutrition.
  • 1 cup Diced Tomatoes Try cherry tomatoes for sweetness.
  • 1/2 medium Red Onion Can substitute with green onions for milder flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Cilantro Skip if not a fan, or swap for parsley.

Instructions

Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and arrange the taco shells upright in a baking dish.
  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, adding the diced onion. Cook until beef is no longer pink and the onions are tender, then drain excess fat.
  • Stir in minced garlic and taco seasoning, cooking for about a minute until fragrant, then add tomato sauce or salsa. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  • Fill each taco shell with the beef mixture and sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the shells are golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and top with lettuce, diced tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Optional: Drizzle with sour cream or guacamole for extra flavor!
