For the Sauce

  • 2 cups marinara sauce Feel free to try a different sauce variation like Alfredo or pesto.

For the Eyeballs

  • 12 black olives, halved Can be replaced with green olives or omitted for a simpler presentation.

For Garnish

  • 1 bunch fresh basil Adds freshness and color to the dish.

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti or fettuccine and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside while you prepare the meatballs.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, seasoned breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined to maintain tenderness.
  • Using your hands, form the meat mixture into meatballs about the size of golf balls. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, making sure to space them out.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes, or until they are nicely browned and cooked through.
  • While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the meatballs are done, add them to the skillet and let them soak in the sauce for a few minutes.
  • Toss the cooked pasta in the marinara sauce with the meatballs, ensuring everything is well coated. Plate the pasta and top with halved black olives for the “pupils” and sprinkle with fresh basil for that delightful finish.

Notes

Enjoy this dish fresh for the best flavors. Consider adding grated Parmesan for an extra touch of richness.
