For the Brown Butter Icing

Instructions
 

Cookie Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • In a large mixer bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter and brown sugar. Beat until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add pure maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Beat until just combined.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just incorporated.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Scoop dough onto lined baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • In a saucepan, brown the butter over medium heat, stirring frequently, then remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk.
  • Dip or drizzle the brown butter icing over the cooled cookies.

Notes

Sprinkle cinnamon on top of the icing for added flavor.
