Ingredients
  

For the Beef

  • 1 pound beef sirloin or flank steak Thinly sliced against the grain

For the Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Can substitute with sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Choose low sodium for a healthier option
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Honey is a sweet alternative if needed
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar White vinegar can work as a substitute
  • 1 tablespoon mirin optional
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Add more vegetable oil if needed

For Serving

  • 4 cups cooked rice or noodles Base for the dish
  • 1 cup sliced green onions Fresh garnish
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds Optional garnish

How to Make Easy Savory Beef Teriyaki

  • In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, mirin, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  • In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the sliced beef to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Add the remaining tablespoon of oil, sauté minced garlic and grated ginger for about 30 seconds.
  • Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Pour in the teriyaki sauce and stir to coat.
  • Stir in the cornstarch mixture and keep stirring until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Serve over cooked rice or noodles.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Optional: Drizzle with extra sesame oil before serving.
