  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon substitute with nutmeg if desired
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt balances sweetness
  • 2 cups apples, chopped can substitute pears if needed
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce drizzle more on top when serving

Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Mix cubed bread and chopped apples together gently in a large bowl.
  • Whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl until well combined.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the bread and apples, gently stirring to ensure every piece is soaked. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce over the mixture and fold in gently.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the pudding for 10 minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm, drizzled with extra caramel sauce, and topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
