Making the Bars

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
  • Mix together the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and large egg in a mixing bowl until a thick dough forms. It should be slightly sticky yet manageable.
  • Press the dough evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking pan, ensuring a solid base for the gooey filling to adhere to.
  • Beat the softened cream cheese in another bowl until it’s smooth and creamy, which will help create that signature gooey texture.
  • Combine the two large eggs and vanilla extract with the cream cheese, mixing well until fully incorporated and fluffy.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar to the cream cheese mixture, stirring continuously until you achieve a creamy and smooth filling consistency.
  • Pour the gooey filling over your pressed cake base, making sure to spread it evenly to avoid any uneven baking.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the edges are set and the center retains a slight jiggle with a beautiful golden top.
